Helmets

On several occasions, I've seen a couple of road bike riders, conspicuously outfitted in the kit of a popular LBS, riding without helmets. I know the shop would not advocate this. I also know the shop has no control over what riders do. I'm just happy to say that the very best riders I've ever known, would never think about getting on their bike without their helmet. They set a hugely important and influential example for which I'm grateful.

Yes. This is a pet peeve of mine. Also, riders riding facing traffic, wearing dark clothing, riding at night, etc. If you take out the crazy behavior of this class of rider, biking is extremely safe.
